Ed Scissor + Lamplighter return with JOYSVILLE.
Written in the witching hour of lockdown one, JOYSVILLE represents a distinct shift in process from the duo. Ungoverned by the more meticulous considerations of the past, JOYSVILLE evolved freely from a small zip of instrumental sketches, before taking shape as a fully realised concept in the space of a short few weeks.
JOYSVILLE is an album about the passing of time. It is an album about loneliness and solitude. It was written and recorded in the thick of the night so naturally explores the beauty of the early hours, but most significantly, JOYSVILLE ruminates on the notion that everything is not lost (even though it might feel otherwise).
Ed Scissor explains; “We wrote JOYSVILLE with total freedom. There were no wrongs. We followed our hearts and went with what felt good in the moment. A lot has changed since we last made music together and JOYSVILLE showcases the additional weight, both musically and emotionally...”
Ed Scissor’s signature storytelling, accompanied by Lamplighter’s sparse and spacious instrumentals, make JOYSVILLE their most personal and accomplished work to date.

Lead single: Been A Minute
Lead single ‘Been A Minute’ speaks on the period between JOYSVILLE and 2016 LP ‘Tell Them It’s Winter’; exploring how absence can come to define the creative journey.
Captured in a single shot, Ed Scissor distils the message by performing the lyrics in British Sign Language. Accompanied by interweaving keys and synths, the song and video combine to create a uniquely sombre tone that could have only been produced by the duo.
