As one fifth of UK rap crew Contact Play, it was agreed that every member would write a solo album before a second crew outing came to pass. The list is slowly being ticked off... It has taken nearly three years for Scissortongue to make this record a reality; 'BETTER.LUCK.NEXT.LIFE. is that album.
Truth be told BETTER.LUCK.NEXT.LIFE is the culmination of over a decade of writing lyrics with the intention of making a rap album. The content and context may have changed but this is that album - the album decided upon in 1999. Edward Scissortongue has only met one producer he has ever wanted to comment to making an entire album with and as soon as Glasgow based producer Lamplighter green lighted the collaboration the album has become something unlike anything either expected.
It is fair to say that both of them are over the moon that it is finally written to a disc and packaged in a cellophane rectangle.
BETTER.LUCK.NEXT.LIFE addresses life and speculates about death. It probably does the latter more than the former - that is all it was ever meant to do and subsequently that is all it does. In the minefield of music, where everything fades, Ed Scissor + Lamplighter have endeavoured to create something timeless.
Featuring the vocal talents of every member of Contact Play on 'Coma' (the first time all five crew members have featured on the same track) and with the mercurial talents of acclaimed artist Will Barras on the art work, both Ed Scissor and Lamplighter are interested to see whether BETTER.LUCK.NEXT.LIFE stands the test of time.
